PENTATONIC

Chairman of MyHarmonica World. And Inventor of the Pentatonic Diatonic Harmonica

In order to play melodies smoothly, swiftly, and with precision—creating pure, standard tones and harmonious double notes, with a breath that flows seamlessly—we often find ourselves needing multiple harmonicas of different keys and scales to accompany a single piece. What was once the harmonica’s advantage—its compact size, portability, ease of play, and beautiful sound—becomes, in the process, an obstacle: the juggling of various instruments turns what was once simple into something akin to a circus act.

After years of exploration and research, it suddenly occurred to me: Why not design a pentatonic harmonica? And so, after countless experiments, studying the techniques and musical theory of other Chinese instruments, I finally succeeded in developing the pentatonic diatonic harmonica we have today.

The idea to create the pentatonic harmonica was inspired by two brilliant harmonica maestros: Saito Toshitaka from Japan and Zhou Jinshi from Singapore. I extend my highest respect and gratitude to them both.

The development of the Chinese pentatonic harmonica is just the beginning. The road ahead is long and full of challenges. With the spirit of a fledgling not afraid of tigers, I have dedicated myself to the study of this instrument. Along the way, I know there will be many imperfections, and I humbly ask for your guidance. I hope this endeavor sparks others to pick up the torch, and together we can elevate the pentatonic harmonica to a place of artistic elegance.
